Preparing for transportation
Transportation can be planned and emergency.
Emergency transportation (hospitalization) is carried out because of medical reasons by ambulance team or because of self-admission to the hospital.
In case of emergency hospitalization, it is necessary to strictly follow the instructions of the doctor, be sure to take the documents of the patient and attendant, available medical documentation, telephone and charger, if possible, essentials (towel, hygiene items, slippers, etc.).
All actions during emergency hospitalization are aimed at reducing the time of delivery of the patient to the hospital, where it is possible to provide specialized medical care. During the call and on the way to the hospital, the emergency team takes all necessary measures to stabilize and maintain the patient's condition: monitoring vital signs and maintaining them within acceptable limits, anesthesia, immobilization in case of injuries, etc.
Planned transportation is carried out for medical or social needs. Medical needs are the transportation of patients between hospitals or to rehabilitation centers. Such patients often need specialized medical control during transportation: oxygen support, dosed continuous infusion therapy to maintain vital functions, special litter or means of immobilization for patients with injuries, etc. In the case of such transportation, it is necessary: a clear pre-arrangement with a hospital that accepts a patient. What includes familiarization with medical documentation: assessment of the patient's condition, decision-making on the appropriateness and timeliness of such a transfer by the receiving doctor. The next step will be communication between the doctor and the ambulance team that will deal with transportation to determine the conditions of transportation, discuss the preparation of the necessary medical documentation.
For organization planned transportation to the hospital, it is necessary to prepare: a patient's medical record, a discharge from the hospital, a form with recommendations for FTF transportation (for international transportation), documents of the patient and attendant, medicines for continuous use, a minimum set of necessary clothing, hygiene products. For long-term transportation, it is necessary to think over the food for the patient and the attendant.
The social needs of transportation are determined by the need to transport people with disabilities, bedridden patients, and the elderly. This is transportation from the hospital home, between apartments, etc. When preparing for such transportation, more attention should be paid to care needs: hygiene, nutrition during long-term transportation, the need for regular medical procedures (dressings, treatment of bedsores).
Reminder to the patient during medical transportation/hospitalization to hospitals.
If the patient belongs to low mobility groups (elderly people, people with disabilities, people with permanent and/or temporary functional impairments, people who have been injured, etc.), then regardless of the type of transportation: planned medical transportation or urgent hospitalization, it is necessary to prepare conditions for comfortable and fast transportation of the patient.
Therefore, preferably that the relatives who are with the patient free up space in advance from furniture and things that can complicate the process of transporting the patient, because every minute is valuable for the patient during emergency hospitalization. The emergency team, in turn, will prepare the necessary means for safe, fast and comfortable transportation.
* During planned hospitalization (medical transportation to a hospital or other health care facilities), it is preferable not to eat, due to the fact that control laboratory tests will be carried out during the patient's admission.
